PLEASE NOTE: Please be careful when using driving directions provided by a mapping program or a GPS. They can give crazy driving directions because none of these programs know if a road is a narrow 4-wheel drive mountain road or a nice paved one.
From Blairsville, GA: Take 76 East through the town of Hiawassee (MAKE SURE YOU GO THROUGH THE TOWN OF HIAWASSEE). On the ouside of town you will see Route 288 on the right. Our large billboard is at that intersection.(You will see Rt 288 before you get into Hiawassee but do NOT take this one.) Turn right on the 2nd 288 and make the first (immediate) left onto Fodder Creek Road. Follow Fodder Creek Road 3-1/2 miles, turn left onto Gander Gap Road. The Office will be over the hill on the left.
From Clayton, GA: Take 76 West 30 miles to 288 (before you get into the town of Hiawassee); make a left on 288 (our large billboard will be there). Immediately turn left onto Fodder Creek Road. Towns County was created in 1856 in the northeast corner of Georgia. It was named for George W. Towns, an early governor of the state. Hiawassee is the county seat. The Cherokee Indian's influence can still be found locally on road signs: Hiawassee, Chatuge, Enotah, Tater Ridge, Bugscuffle, Frog Pond, and Shake Rag, among others.
Towns County covers 106,240 acres including 75,000 in the Chattahoochee National Forest and 7,000 owned by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA), which built Lake Chatuge in 1941.
